Suzume

Last week was Holy Week. Yesterday was Easter Sunday, Christians and Catholics around the world celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

It was a holiday week in Hong Kong, and I was lucky enough to watch the movie Suzume on my flight. Makoto Shinkai directed it, and it is the third movie of his trilogy. The first movie in the series is Your Name, and the second is Weathering with You. I watched the trilogy again.

Below, I’ve listed the IMDb descriptions and the beautiful movie songs for my quick reference:

Your Name (released in 2016, Chinese Name is 你的名字)

IMDb description: Two teenagers share a profound, magical connection upon discovering they are swapping bodies. Things manage to become even more complicated when the boy and girl decide to meet in person.

Weathering with You (2019, 天氣之子)

IMDb description: Set during a period of exceptionally rainy weather, high-school boy Hodaka Morishima runs away from his troubled rural home to Tokyo and befriends an orphan girl who can manipulate the weather.

Suzume (2022, 鈴芽之旅)

IMDb description: A modern action-adventure road story where a 17-year-old girl named Suzume helps a mysterious young man close doors from the other side that are releasing disasters all over Japan.

These movies are about love: love between people, love between people and nature, and love between one another.
